pop,, bang .. Help

Post by kiaora »

Hi...

I have a bit of popping and mild backfiring coming from the car.

It idles ok, and if i put my foot down will goooo, theres a bit of holding back before it actually goes though.

It like to have my foot down. But if i ease off and try running at a contsant speed its a bit lumpy and jerks a little.

Any ideas please....

Thanks

Are these newly installed carbs or carbs that were running fine on this engine and just started acting up? This will affect the answers you get. If they are newly installed they may be jetted to lean or have a plugged idle jet. The accelerator pumps could need some adjusting also. If they just started acting up, you could also have a plugged jet.

Make absolutely sure,
the carbs are sync'd at idle and reaching full throttle at the same time
no trash in the idle jets
timing is set properly

I had the first problem listed with mine. They were perfectly sync'd at idle and seemed to start opening at the same time but one reached full throttle way before the other. Took some engineering to get it right but the car runs smooth through the whole throttle range now. And I can really feel the difference when I step on it
