Water Injection--Turbo Pre-detination

Seem to remember an aftermarket kit for Corvair Spyders (read TurboCharged) that provided a fine spray of H20 at the induction point to prevent predetination, and it worked, too. Hadda a little water tank that when it went dry, cut back of the the distributor advance until it was full again. Don't know if any of you turboheads are aware of or using such technology--might check with some Corvair builders for more info. (I might be stirring some sh*t around C/R with this I don't mean to) Had a '66 Corvair (2bbl) LONG LONG time ago but this kit was in every aftermarket catalog I had for it.

Spearco sells them in Semi Valley if I remember corredt $250 for soleniod, jets, and take.

www.aquamist.co.uk now there's the place for water injection. Spearco there system is ok, but if you can afford aquamist big difference. And water injection is not, for those that don't know what they are doing, it another part of a whole. just like retarding timing for boost another tool in fixing temp. Maximum Boost by Croky Bell bad mouth water injection however check out the site and read the info.

Nothing to feel shame about a lot of vw people have a relationship with a corvair in their deep, dark past....I spoke with a few of the guys campaigning corvairs way back and at the time the pressure retard with water injection was a favorite of Dick Griffin, Tom Kesabian and ted trevor to name a few...Doug Roe seemed at the time to lean towards a water spray into the fan of the covair...seems it would mist and cool the heads treemendously in his hill climb/ gymkana/road race coupes...Ted Trevor of Crown Engineering ran a water injection on his corvair(s) with a Weber DCOE sidedraft to very good results in various modes of competition ,including record runs at Pikes Peak....Tom Kasabian Ran his corvair with waTER INJECTION AT THE DRAGS AND EARLY IN THE DEVELOPMENT RAN A 12.33 @117 ON 13 INCH WHITEWALLS...Later was well known in rodding circles to have gone nearly 160mph in a close to stock turbo 'vair...Later yet ran nearly 170mph with the same car on propane... I took the advice of these gentleman and buil;t my own water injection setup using the boost to force the water alky mixture from a 2 1/2 gallon Hamm's Tapper into a stromberg 2 bbl downdraft pirated from a junkyard Studebaker ...A 50/50 mixture of water alchohol seemed to work best ...The car with the addition of the stromberg and water injection tranfomed the lowly corsa from a sleepy mid 17 second slug to a street fighter ...With a sliping clutch from the addition of f70 14 wide ovals to harness the new found power the car ran a 14.96 @ 96 mph and for half track was more than a match for most any gto/ss 396 etc of the day ,as long as he was on street rubber....Don't be affraid to try something new ,remember to start easy and work your way up...Good luck....
