concerning wiring to coil and a fried distributor.

Post by painly »

ok so i never took a photo of the wiring to the coil before i tore everything down, and now i have 4 wires that i really dont know where they go. here is a picture of some wires comming from the car with the genreator cables, wanting to be hooked up somewhere. the one with tape i am fiarly sure is the oil pressure wire. one of them has to be some voltage for the coil. the idiot book has no details on thsi i can find, only the utmost basic diagrame of a power wire going to the coil and the dist wire going to the other side.

and with this ignorance i hooked up the wires obviously wrong, and ended up getting voltage into the ground wire of the dist and burning them little wires inside. would i only need to replace the points? or could i had done more damage.

thanks all. this is wearing me down.

Heavy black wire is power from the ignition.Connect it to the postitive side of the coil.
Small green/blue wire connects to the oil preasure sending unit.
Small grey with green stripes is not required.
Heavy black wire with large covered connector(used to go to the diagnostic flywheel sensor for reading engine timing) is not needed.
That should get you going.

thanks alot. that really clarified things.

now for the dist, could i had fried some important with hooking the green ground to the possitive? i got smoke from it and the wire insulating melted off the points wire, and i dont know if that other wire in there ever had insulating on it.

i was thinking about buying a non-vacum style and calling it done, but at the same time if i fix this one, atleast i will familiarize myself with "a distributor".

im just worried i may have hurt some internal parts perhaps.

all the dist. wires have insulation,so replace any that have it burned off. This is a common situation when we get in a hurry to hook things up..Usually I only need to replace the points themselves when it happens to me.
