Road Racing takes a toll

The bug finally blew up,after three hard years of race abuse.I was at Buttonwillow coming out of cotton corners at the top of third gear and just before it hit 7,000 rpm BAM it let go

I coasted off the track in a cloud of smoke. There is oil all over the place and I pulled out a chunk of magnesiem out of the 1&2 side rocker box so its going to be bad. I will pull the motor out when i get home.

We used to use this sort of rod to minimize damage, in the event one "let go". Good to 150hp per rod (600 hp). If they break, they will shatter into bits, rather than blowing a hole through the case.

I pulled the motor last night and there is a nice golf ball size hole on the top of the case right between the #1&2 cylinders. I will tear it down today and see what caused the rod to fail.

The finall score is two holes in the case, mangled crank two smashed rods three completely destroyed pistons and cylinders, cam is in two pieces, four bashed lifters and three bent pushrods and both heads have cracks.

It is a real mess but i think that i had a rod bolt failer. The #1 rod is the one that let go I found the streched and mangled cap and it still had the bolts in it. I had scat I beams and a conter weighted crank, the motor did not smoke or use oil and the endplay is still good

How much $$ do you want for it? Does it still run?!

so pretty much an expensive boat anchor that sucks man i hate when that happens
look at the bright side least you don't have to drill any holes in the case to tie the anchor rope to it
