I'm getting ready to put a type 4 in my '67 912. Jake sells some of the conversion parts (tin, engine bar, headers). You can check out Tony's webpage on his conversion of "Gumby". Theres a pretty good writeup there:

A few things to consider; the trans will have to be regeared to work properly. This means getting a 911/912 901 box and replacing the gears with 914 gears (stock gears can be had for cheap). If you go with headers, you will lose heat. You can install 411/412 heater boxes and retain stock heat. Other then that, its a pretty nice conversion. Most of the parts are out there and its totally reversable. Porsche did a conversion in '76 with the 912E.
