IIRC I saw you mention a carb spacer that is either in development or is available from Lenn.

What is the usage for the spacer?

They are fully developed and are still being tested for actual gains in my car as we speak.

The benefits are carburetors that operate at about 1/2 the temperature of those using a conventional paper gasket. I am datalogging the differences in the car now, but only the dyno the benefits were significant as carbs that are cooler make for fuel in the float bowls that are cooler and thanslates simply into power.

Price for them would be about 40 bucks for a set.

When will they be available?

How thick ar they?

1/4" thick. They are available now, just not on the site yet. Will be by the end of the week..

Jake, Are these carb seals similar to the "vibration dampners" that were offered by CB some time ago? What is the material used in its construction, and is its sole purpose to keep the carbs insolated/cooler? Thanks, Seahag

No, drastically different. Their used a rubber material- these are made from a Phenoli material and we even have carb washers cut from the same material to keep the heat from transferring through the stud to the carb...

Also a new line of thermal isolating intake manifold gaskets are being tested. These bolt right on and are a part of the new generation cylinder head program as many sets of the new generation heads are only capable of their power gains with these gaskets.

Why not use the phenolic spacers that were designed to keep
the FI intakes cool?

cool intakes=cool carbs?

Wouldn't that make the intake charge cooler?

Wouldn't cooler carbs create warm up issues on colder days though? I thought that was the reason for not using the FI spacers on carbed cars . . .

In colder climates they could pose an issue, but they are easy enough to swap out if you want...

In colder climates you could dispence with the intake insulators, but you would be better off figuring out a way to feed warm air to the aircleaners.
I would continue to use the carb insulators as boiling fuel is never good.

As for the question regarding why not just use the F.I. insulators.
First off the phenolic material we are using is far superior to the bakolite FI insulators, and secondly I CAD designed the phenolics with a different, more advantageous port alignment that is not possible with the bakolite units.

Flow increased significantly with this improved port alignment, especially after .250" lift. Because this increase is spread over the upper range of lift this means mid-range and peak power will increase significantly. This is the set-up used on the HotVw's engine.

Compare the flow #'s. Both test were conducted on our "New generation" heads. All data gathered at 28" depression.

Lift Phenolic Bakolite
.050 34.1 34.3
.100 60.5 62.0
.150 87.5 88.4
.200 116.5 115.8
.250 141.7 143.3
.300 160.0 164.0
.350 171.4 180.4
.400 182.2 189.5
.450 187.8 195.8
.500 192.3 200.3
.550 196.3 205.4

Improved flow and improved thermal qualities. What a bargain. We also offer the phenolic with the O.E. port alignment for people who want the improved thermal qualities for engines that are all ready in use, no porting required. These insulators are designed to fit the DTM and will require some trimming to fit O.E. sheet metal. If we get enough request for parts that fit o.e. sheet metal I'll design some. These are only available through the T4 store.

Don't ask me the specific material specs becasue I won't tell. I spent a solid year coming up with the right specs for this application! [/img]

Len is the man behind this development!

This has been an integral part of designing the current 2270 combo that made MORE POWER than most 2316s and more power than any 2270 has before!

They work exceptionally well and seal exceptionally well! I have about 1000 miles of driving time with them being ran on the test engine in the Blue Bug and the fasteners are still tight with no leaks anywhere..

The benefits of cooler fuel and cooler intake air temps are HUGE to power gains, that added to the flow benefits is a huge development!

WOW!

I can add 9 CFM just by installing the spacers!
That's like adding about 10HP, right?!

Nope, not unless you have the port shape Len has created...

That Port shape requires these spacers...
