Alternator Question
When i got my 914, very litttle of the wiring was intact. AS for the alternator, i can see the three prong plug goes to the fuse block, but the single red wire is a mystery. it is too short to go to the starter. Does anyone know where the mystery wire goes?

The thick red wire should go to the starter. Sounds like it got shortened somehow. It should have a ring terminal crimped onto the end, and go onto the same post on the starter solenoid that the really fat cable from the battery (+) post does. It would go up through the engine tin like the other wires do, then back through the rear (vertical) part of the engine tin through a rubber grommet.
Without it, the alternator won't charge anything. BTDT!
