And this is how it all came together, at a Porsche Club of America autocross in Stockton last weekend:
Now we need to work on suspension setup, because everything else is solid.

What pedals are you using there?
They're pretty much what I've been looking for.

Wow! This is the conversion I've been looking for!
I was checking out at Renagades Hybrid's website, but this is even better with Suby Transsaxle with Cable shifter!
Does he make a "KIT" for this conversion? Engine/Tranny frame and cable shifter mods? I'm way out here in the East Cost and would really like to have the similar setup for my 914.
BTW, This WRX motor is the USDM WRX, right? Stock at 227Hp? Can I do the same with a JDM EJ20TT motor and Transmission?
Anyone I can contact for this conversion?
Thanks!
Dennis

You can email me at [email protected] This was a one off build but I would be happy to help. There is just to much work and custom pieces involved to make a production "kit". And yes it's a usdm engine, you could use yours but I would convert to single turbo.

Did you run down the strip at all at Bug-o-Rama this weekend? It was cool to see the conversion in person. Very clean install.
Thanks to my friend Jeff for this awesome vid, It cracks me up every time I watch it.
It doesn't show it but the Porsche ran a 13.0 at 108, and after the bug broke we put the slicks on the 914. This immediately resulted in a outer cv joint failure on the launch after a nice second gear burnout. Managed to fix it with a swap meet axle but it would have got into the mid twelves with that trap speed.
If you want to upgrade to 930 CV's so you don't break em again, let me know. We now do 930 output flanges for Subaru transmissions. http://www.subarugears.com. Made from billet 709M steel.
Here's the image of the cumputerised stress testing, as you can see there's no red 'hot spots' to indicate stress :
And pix of the finished product :

Those flanges look great! But we have stock outer CVs on the car for a reason. I'd much rather break a CV joint than something inside the transmission. The stock CV is acting like a fuse in the system.
Here are a couple more pictures of the car at the strip:
You can see how much it squatted on the launch, with the slicks (this is in the exact moment it broke the cv):
And how much it squatted with the street tires:
Fixed with a CV found in the swap meet, and drove it home:

Digging this up from the grave to ask a few questions...
1. Could this be done with an automatic transmission?
...OK, only one question.

Certainly, although that brings in 2WD Audi transmissions as candidates.
a 5/6 speed manual with a lockup tq converter added on might be interesting...
the tq converter takes some of the edge off, allowing transmissions to live.
(currently looking for more info on that myself)

Why would you even contemplate bringing a VW/Audi auto into the equation (with the adaptor plates and torque converter spacers needed) when the Subaru 4 & 5 speed auto bolts straight up? Block off the AWD output on the back and you are good to go. You can even install the paddle shift Subie auto.
