I went to the track last friday and here are the times I got with my 59 ragtop beetle w/ a 2.0l TypeIV.
1st run 16.567 @79.29
2nd run 16.135 @80.45
3rd run 16.297 @80.72
4th run 15.925 @81.13

Not bad for running on street tires.
If anyone else has some times they could post I would love to see them.

Not bad, considering that is an engine capable of making that power for over 120K miles......Keep it up, when you want more power, drop in the 2270 and fly to the low 14's, maybe high 13's

All steel 74 Beetle with a 1904cc and Berg 5 speed. With the BIG bumpers removed, no rear or passanger seat, no spare, no fan belt, stinger and 26x6x15 M&H slicks my best time was 12.718 @ 103mph.

Your 74 Bug weighs about 2000 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 12.71 seconds with a 1904cc? That means that you've got about 192.52 HP at the wheels!

It weighs 1850lbs and has 156hp at the rear wheels (measured on a Mustang wheel dyno). Even with the bumpers and full interior, the car doesn't weigh 2000lbs.

Are you surprised that a under 2 litre engine can run that fast??

I had a hard time believing this also, just to blunt and totally honest.

BTW, Glenn doesn't sound like a BS artist, and most of those Dyno programs show that the head flow make the biggest improvement in HP gains. Glenn has some killer heads on the car. I think it's entirley possible and believe it.

Well... displacement isn't everything. An internal combustion engine is just a air pump. The more air you can move the more power you will get. I have had extensive work on the heads, 42x37.5 valves, .543" of lift, dual Dellorto 45 DLRA, 1-3/4" headers and a Berg electronic ignition with 9.25:1 cr. Everything is balanced and the engine will run upto 8000rpm. The Berg 5 tranny with ZF diff also helps put the power down. Type 2 CVs and heavy duty axles allow the 26x6x15 M&H slicks to get plenty of traction.

It's not that hard to get into the 12's. And there are other all steel cars that are getting into the 11s, but with larger engines.

You know what they say... "drive it like you stole it"

the good ole days of small motors.
before i was able to drive, my brother set up a 1800 cc 88x74 motor with some high end Dick nuss heads, cam and compression but still drove it on the street. and it was estemated at 180 hp at the flywheel. it also pushed his 71 bug at over 1900 lbs with driver to 12.80's @106 on soft compound radials. put some slicks on it and i can see some 12.60's at 103ish. maybe better.

Sounds like the same weight and HP of my car.

BTW... If i was gonna BS, i'd say my engine was a 2300cc and not a midsized 1904cc. I'd get less people questioning the ETs.

Nothing, if the motor is stock.
