HOLY JEEZ!!! I drove it!

My God.....
It absolutely smokes the tires in second gear just taking off!
Forget first- its a total waste of time...
I am going to be easy on it until after dyno day!
Whats the most amazing is the temps!!! The damn thing runs head temps at 275-310 and is dead even left and right! Oil has yet to hit 190!!!!
I never dreamed that the temps would be this good with a 10:1 3 liter engine! The heads lack some fins, but i swear its not making a difference at all! The pressure within the upper plenums of the shroud is the highest I have ever seen and that is really shoving air through the fins on the biggest Nickies in the world!
I have yet to take it over 4K- You simply don't need to... Its like driving a Big Block chevy...... Smooth as silk, power from idle and sounds 100% stock.
We made it happen and I'm amazed.

Nice job Jake! I saw those heads and they are a work of art. I don't think anyone can appreciate the time you have into them.

Way to go! That engine cant make any heat until you put a load on it, and the bug aint gonna do it. It would be a blast in a bus wouldn't it?
Go have yourself some well deserved fun!

I can think of another way to put a load on the engine - in a 914, WOT at 125mph.

Very cool. Keep it together and get it to the track. There are a few Type 1 only guys that NEED a thrashing.

Just took it on a 20 mile trip...
It is absolutely unreal how cool it runs!
This damn thing runs cooler than my Bus , but not quite as col as the 912E- BUT this engines is 1000 cc bigger with way less cooling fins!
Oil temps run about 180 with just a small mesa cooler as an external and the DTM!
With the 2332 TI in the same car I was running head temps almost 100 degrees more than this baby!
I got my bad Dell back from Art Thraen today and installed it. I believe it was a mistake because I did not have those carbs on for the dyno work.......I need to do some tuning tomorrow before I leave with the LM-1 and get it a tad better than it is now... seems to run out in the midrange just about peak torque..
What a smooth driving, cool running animal!
This development was for more than just power- The temps these heads run is absolutely amazing... A true testament to the DTM!

Congrats Jake! I'm looking forward to seeing some dyno numbers and time slips. Is this the biggest stock block VW ever built? All motor baby!

Jake,
A 3.44 would spread that out quite a bit and also eliminate the need for
larger carbs!
I mean, if your bug can do 140MPH at 5000 RPM, who needs to go faster?
OF course, a 3.44 won't work with that Quaife differential.......you DO
have a Quaife in there ,DON'T you? IF you don't, you may find that
you're gonna NEED one!

The Germans did do this years ago... BUT I seriously doubt that any of the developments that are in this baby were ever used...
The 3619 will be the biggest bad boy alive.... Been doing it since 2000, and all the machine work isn't even finished yet.
